What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth technology specifies a two-way, short-range radio link that enables communication between PCs, mobile phones, PDAs, and other computing, electronic, and home theatre equipment. With Bluetooth, you can easily synchronize contact or calendar data between a PDA and laptop, talk on a hands-free phone, or print without cables. It is a cable replacement technology like infrared, but offers many advantages over infrared.

The Bluetooth specification focuses on keeping costs low, power consumption minimal, and the size small. Its low power consumption means it can be used in battery-powered devices. Bluetooth offers faster data rates and greater transmission distances compared with infrared and there are no line-of-site restrictions. It operates at the 2.4 GHz radio frequency, ensuring worldwide operability.


Bluetooth is named after a 10th century Danish king, Harald Blatand (Harld Bluetooth) who was known for uniting warring groups in current-day Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. It was originally developed by Ericsson, but is now managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

The Bluetooth SIG is an industry group with members from the telecommunications, computing, and chip manufacturing industries. To date over 2000 companies are members. The Bluetooth SIG oversees a qualification program to ensure compliance with the standard and interoperability with other Bluetooth devices. Any device bearing the Bluetooth logo has successfully completed interoperability testing.

Technical Details

Speed: The gross data rate supported by Bluetooth is 1 Mbps. Actual data rates are 432 kbps for full-duplex and 721 kbps for asymmetric transmission.

Frequency: Bluetooth uses the unlicensed ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) band at 2.4 GHz. In most countries, this band is available. In a few countries it is reserved for military use, but even these countries are moving to make the band available for general use. Because Bluetooth shares the same frequency range as 802.11b WLAN products, these two technologies cannot operate in the same space under some conditions.

Security: Bluetooth is designed to be as secure as wire using authentication and 128-bit encryption. Applications can also build their own security on top of the Bluetooth connection.

Transmission distance: Bluetooth’s typical range is up to 10m. The range depends on the radio power class used. A class 2 radio has a typical range of 10m. More powerful classes support longer ranges and have higher output powers. Most devices use a class 2 radio and mobile devices, like mobile phones, where low power consumption is crucial, can only use a class 2 radio.

Architecture: With Bluetooth, up to 8 devices can be connected simultaneously. A piconet is the term for a collection of Bluetooth devices connected in an ad hoc fashion. All devices are peer units, but one device acts as a master and the other slaves for the duration of the piconet connection. Each piconet can support up to 3 full-duplex voice devices. Within a 10m area, there can be up to 10 piconets.


Bluetooth is becoming the preferred wireless technology in the WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network). Personal applications include:

– Users can connect PCs to transfer files.

– Workers can collaborate on the same document using Microsoft NetMeeting.

– Users can connect to a printer without cables.

– Users can synchronize data between a handheld PDA and laptop.

– Users can listen to music via a wireless headset.

– Users can talk on their mobile phone with a wireless headset.

– Users can connect their laptops to the internet using their mobile phone’s GPRS or UMTS network.

3G Technology on Mobile Phones

Third generation technology, better known as 3G technology has hit the United States and is here to stay. What 3G does not do is have an obvious impact on the look, fall or design of a cellular phone. However, what 3G does dose is promise faster communication services which include fax, voice, and even internet services. This can be offered 3G uses seamless global roaming. Other companies such as T-Mobile do not plan to roll out this technology with their services until 2007. So what is 3G technology exactly? This technology will bring wireless data services to your phone like you've never seen them before. This technology boasts speeds about three times faster than a 56 Kbps connection to 2.4Mbps connection speed, equivalent to using a cable modem. 3G networks allow users to easily and quickly read through web pages, watch streaming music videos, and use video conferencing to its fullest.

The experience you will have while using 3G technology with a cellular phone will be one close to using your home computer with a broadband connection. It seems that hand held computers are definitely the way of the future. With each company committing to spending billions of dollars to upgrade to a 3G network, this technology is clearly worth the price we will all unduly pay. But with a loss each company will take to upgrade, comes a need to gain customers, so look for new and improved handsets to launch when your favorite company upgrades to using this system.

WorldVentures is a privately-owned, travel-based network marketing company. The company started in December of 2005 and is based in Plano, Texas. In 2009, WorldVentures acquired Success University, another network marketing company selling online courses. Currently, WorldVentures is operating in 11 countries – USA, United Kingdom, South Africa, Cyprus and Israel (just to name a few). In this article, I will give you an objective and critical review of the WorldVentures Business Opportunity, briefly highlight their products and pay plan, and give you a few pros and cons that I see with their model. By the way, I want to disclose that I am NOT a WorldVentures rep.

First, Let’s Go Over Their Two Products

1. The first product they market is the Leisure Travel Consultant package, or LTC. Now, what is the LTC package? As a WorldVentures rep, you’re giving someone the chance to have their very own travel-booking-engine website. They can book their own travel on it, or they can get the word out to people they know to book their travel on their site. As travel gets booked on their website, they would earn a small commission.

2. The second product is their flagship product, the Dream Trips Membership. As a WorldVentures rep, you can sell memberships and make a small commission every time you sell a membership. What is exactly is the Dream Trips Membership? In a nutshell, customers are buying into a „travel club“ that allows them to leverage the buying power of tens of thousands of other members, giving them the opportunity to travel at discounted, wholesale prices.

Now Let’s Jump Into How You Get Paid In WorldVentures

There are several ways to get paid in WorldVentures. Keep in mind, you have the ability to decide if you want to get paid a little… or a lot. It all depends on your efforts and your goals. Also, in this part of the article, I will explain the compensation plan only.

Here is the simplified explanation of the compensation plan:

1. Direct Commissions – You can earn $20 for every new sale you personally make. This can be a Dreamtrips membership sale, a Leisure Travel Consultant package sale or both (2-for-1 combo). You can make an unlimited amount of sales and therefore generate an unlimited amount of $20 commissions.

2. Personal Sales Bonus – On top of the direct commissions, you can also earn a Personal Sales Bonus for every 6 personal sales you make. You can earn this bonus as many times as you want. This Personal Sales Bonus consists of $250 in cash and $100 in Training Dollars. Training Dollars can be used for any training events you attend that the company puts on. Again, I want to emphasize that you can earn this bonus over and over again and this is on top of the Direct Commissions you would have also earned for the 6 sales that enabled you to get a Personal Sales Bonus.

3. Weekly Team Building Bonuses (Cycles) – With WorldVentures, you only have to build 2 teams: a right time and a left team. As you build these two teams out, sales will be made. Now, every time there 3 sales made on the left team and 3 sales made on the right team, a $100 cycle bonus gets paid to you. Keep in mind, these sales can be made by anyone on your team… In other words, when there are 3 sales made ANYWHERE in your left team and 3 sales made ANYWHERE in your right team, this bonus gets released. Here’s am important detail about Cycle Bonuses: the company pays out a $200 cycle bonus to you every time you cycle within your first 60 days. After your first 60 days, you can continue to earn this $200 cycle bonus as long as your are cycling at least 3 times a week.

4. Residual Income – For every 6th cycle, you will earn $20-$40 in passive, re-occurring residual income. Keep in mind that as you continue to cycle over time, this residual income will continue to grow. This is a very important aspect to think about if you want to become financially independent. What would it be like if your monthly residual income was equivalent to your monthly expenses? Over time, you can potentially have this happen and not have to worry about your monthly bills.

5. Travel Dollars – Like the residual income payout, for every 6th cycle, you’ll also earn $100 Travel Dollars. These „dollars“ can be redeemed for travel booked through Rovia (air, car, hotel and cruise). This is an awesome feature as you can literally travel for free (since you’re simply redeeming your Travel Dollars when you travel) and anyone within your immediate family can redeem them.

6. Lifestyle Bonuses – As you promote yourself through the WorldVentures compensation plan, there are some very lucrative Lifestyle Bonuses you can earn. For example, once you hit the position of Regional Marketing Director, the company will give you a $1,000 a month Dream Car Bonus that you can use to make a monthly payment to the car of your choice. And once you hit the position of International Marketing Director, you’ll receive a $1,500 a month Dream Car Bonus and a $3,000 a month Dream House Bonus that you can apply to your house payment. This is a very lucrative feature because the average family’s two biggest expenses are the car payment and mortgage payment. These bonuses equate to over $50,000 a year… which is on top of your actually income from the compensation plan.

WorldVentures also has a recognition program and rewards people for their hard work. For example, once you earn $100,000 a year, WorldVentures rewards you with their $100,000 Ring (their version of the Superbowl ring). And lastly, you can qualify to get a position placed above your curent position upon hitting IMD in the company.

So as you can see, the compensation plan is pretty good and you can make a good income by simply helping people save money on travel and/or helping others get involved with the company. With that said, let me now go into 2 pros and 2 cons from my perspective.

First, The Pros:

1. Timing – WorldVentures is positioned in front of three booming trends: The $8 Trillion Travel Industry, The Baby Boomers and The Network Marketing Industry. On top of that, WorldVentures itself is very young and there is plenty of room to grow and expand.

2. Sizzle Product – As a rep, you’ll have the luxury of selling a product that almost everybody loves or wants to do – VACATION! It’s easy, fun and exciting to talk about. And if you can help people save money on their vacations or help people make money on their own travel, it’s a win-win situation.

And Now The Cons:

1. Breakage In Compensation Model (Binary) – There are several features in the Comp Plan that are designed to NOT pay you what you’re worth or deserve. For example, the pay plan runs on a Binary model which pays you on two legs. In ANY Binary, there is a strong leg (power leg) and a weaker leg (pay leg). Think about this for a second. Let’s say you know a guy that you recruit into your business. Now, let’s say he becomes the company superstar and explodes his business by building a team of THOUSANDS of reps. Chance are he is in your strong leg (power leg). Well, you get paid squat on him and his team. But wait! Wasn’t it YOU who contacted and recruited him? Wasn’t it YOU who helped him build his team in the early stages? Doesn’t the company STILL bring in THOUSANDS of dollars of revenue monthly on that team that you built? Why won’t they pay YOU on all that revenue that your superstar is responsible for? Because he is in your strong leg (power leg). This is CRITICAL if you’re considering the WorldVentures Opportunity. At some point, you won’t get paid on your BEST people (assuming they are in your power leg).

(By the way, this doesn’t mean ALL binaries are bad. There are some companies that run on a binary model but have components in their comp plan that enable you to profit from BOTH legs.)

2. Breakage In The WorldVentures Compensation Plan – WorldVentures also has a ton of breakage in it’s comp plan. For example, a MAJOR area where there’s breakage in the comp plan is the fact that you don’t qualify to get paid residuals until you’re a Director (which means you have a minimum of 90 active reps on both your right and left legs. Well, I guarantee you there are hundreds upon hundreds of reps that are not Directors but have built decent teams who don’t get paid residuals (but yet the company still brings in that monthly revenue).

Should You Join?

WorldVentures is a legitimate business opportunity. However, it’s critical that you do your research first and identify if it’s the opportunity you’re looking for. For example, if you’re interested in getting in on the front end of a young company and ride the momentum that can potentially occur when the company hits momentum, then WorldVentures may be for you. But if you’re interested in building residuals DAY ONE and getting paid equally on your WHOLE team, then WorldVentures may not be for you.

What Is VoIP And How Exactly Does It Work?


VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol is becoming more and more popular these days. People use VoIP for international calls as the costs are significantly lower than regular landline or mobile costs or sometimes even totally free. VoIP works by transmitting analog signals such as voice, fax, SMS and voice-messaging into digital signals which can be sent through the Internet and not through Public Switched Telephone Network. In other words; VoIP lets you make phone calls and use other communication services through the internet. VoIP is preferred both for its price and ease of use. As VoIP works through the internet, it can be used anywhere you have an internet connection. This means that people traveling abroad can just take their phones or adapters with them.

There are three different types of VoIP calling;

1. Analog telephone adapter: also knows as ATA or VoIP adapter. This is a simple device that allows you to connect your regular phones to your computer or internet for making VoIP calls. You can use your regular phone and service provider for most calls and then switch to VoIP when making international calls. The adapter converts the analog signals into digital ones.

2. IP Phones: these phones look and work like regular phones but they can connect to your internet connection without the need of an adapter to convert the signals. IP phones come both cordless and corded which can be plugged directly into your internet router. Many types of IP phones offer additional services such as placing calls on hold, transferring to other extensions and multiple phone lines among others which makes them ideal for businesses.

3. PC to PC: This is the easiest type of VoIP communication. All you need is software on your computer, internet connection and a headset. No adapters or phones needed! There are many companies offering Pc to PC software and many offer additional services such as putting a call on hold, transferring to another extension and using multiple phone lines. You will need to pay a monthly fee for the software but calls are usually free. You can also have this type of software on your mobile phone, this software is called a softphone or mobile dialer. With a softphone you can make VoIP calls from your mobile phone. Using a softphone to make calls has an additional advantage – mobile phones are portable and can be used anywhere you want. You can also use your regular phone plan for normal calls and switch to VoIP for internal calls only.

There are loads of different VoIP providers out there. There are many different price ranges but you need to see what services each one is offering and also make sure the call quality is good. Many VoIP service providers provide services such as;

• caller ID

• call waiting

• call transfer

• Repeating a call

• returning a call

• Three way calling.

Some services allow you to try out their software so get a friend to download it as well and see how it works.


To understand how VoIP works, it's helpful to compare it to how regular phone calls operate.

Circuit switching:

When you use a regular phone to make a call, it is connected with circuit switching. This is what we call Public Switched Telephone Network also known as PSTN.

The system works by setting up a channel or circuit between the caller and receiver for the duration of the call.

In the early days a dedicated copper wire had to connect the two ends in order to make a call. This is where the help of an operator service came in, they made sure the wires got connected. This type of connection was really expensive because you actually owned that piece of wire for the duration of the call, so if you made a call from India to the UK for example, you owned a piece of wire stretching from India to the UK.

Nowadays making phone calls is more efficient, as calls are digitized and automated electronic switching has replaced the manual switching. Fiber-optic cables are now used instead of the copper ones and with fiber-optic cables, thousands of voice signals can share the same cable. This means that you do not actually own that wire anymore while making a call but you share it with many others.

The way the circuit works has stayed the same over the years. For the duration of the call a connection must be made. A standard amount of data – 960 KB gets used per minute that you are connected, and voice data is sent from both ends. A big part of this data gets lost because because both ends are not sending out voice signals at the same time, one is usually listening while the other talks and there is just silence at some points as well.

Another disadvantage of circuit switching is that it can only be used by one person at a time. So if you are making a call from a phone number, that number is now unavailable for use. It only becomes available again once you hang up.

Packet switching:

When you make a VoIP call, it uses packet switching. Instead of keeping the connection open for the duration of the call as is the case with circuit switching, the connection only opens when there is something to send.

Let's look at an example:

When you make a five minute phone call with circuit switching, you will be sending full data for all five minutes from both ends as the connection will be open all the times. When you make a call with packet switching, you could be calling for five minutes but you only send out data when there is something to send. You might only send out two minutes of data which frees up a lot of space that can be used by others.

The following happens anytime you send something through the internet such as e-mail, voice messages, images and also when you make VoIP calls.

• The file you are sending is broken up into 'data packs', so if you make a call, your voice signals will be divided into 'data packets'. These packets can now be sent through the internet

• Every packet gets a 'header' with the IP address it is supposed to go to, information about the IP address it was sent from and the amount of packets the original data was divided into. Every packet also gets a number so that when the packages arrive at their destination they can be put together easily.

• The 'data packets' are sent out to a router near the sender and from there they get sent to another router and from there to another until they arrive at the router nearest to their destination. It is then send to the computer or phone of the recipient. When a piece of data is divided into small packets, all the packets can get to the same destination using a different pathway, meaning going through different routers as there are millions of ways to get from one end to another.

• The computer or phone from the recipient puts the packets together again using the numbers that were sent with the packets

This system has an added advantage that if a certain branch is broken or too busy, the routers will automatically send the data through another route.



In order to send your voice signals to another IP address, codecs will be used. This is what we call encoding. Codecs stand for 'coder-decoder'.

Codecs convert the regular audio signals into the data packets. They do this by 'sampling' data several thousand times per second. The most common types of codec samples at 8000 times a second but it can also be 64.000 or 32.000 times per second.

Every 'sample' is then digitized and compressed before being sent off.

This sounds very complicated but actually happens really fast and you do not even realize that much is happening while you are making the calls.

VoIP works with IP addresses that correspond to a certain PC, router, phone or other device.

The softswitch:

There are two types of soft switches; the class 4 softswitch and the class 5 softswitch.

• Class 4 softswitch is mainly used by local offices switches and carriers or carrier to carrier to avoid high cost calls when making long distance calls as the costs of calling with VoIP are significantly lower than with regular phone lines.

• Class 5 softswitch is mainly used by VoIP resellers to provide VoIP services to their clients. The class 5 softswitch can connect calls between regular phones and IP phones which makes them ideal for end users.

The class 5 softswitch can offer services for both VoIP phones and non-VoIP phones such as calling cards services which are used on regular phones.

Class 5 soft switches are used primarily for local calls by end-users. If a client wants to make a long-distance call, the class 5 softswitch will typically send the request over to a class 4 softswitch.

The softswitch is basically what allows the two end points to connect via the internet. The class 5 softswitch is mainly used when connecting circuit and packet networks, in other words when making a call between a regular phone and a VoIP phone.

When someone calls a phone number from a VoIP phone, the softswitch will convert that phone number into an IP address as VoIP only works with IP addresses and not phone numbers. The softswitch can easily find an IP address for a number and if it can not it will send the request over to another softswitch until it has an answer. Once an IP address is found, the softswitch will send it over to the phone or PC from the sender in order for the address to be registered in the 'header' of the 'data packs'.


As with every new technology there are many advantages and disadvantages to VoIP, so it is up to you to decide if you would like to use it or not and how much you'd like to use it.

Obviously the main advantages are price and flexibility as mentioned earlier. Calls can be made whenever and where you want as long as you have an internet connection. Calls are also a fraction of the price of regular phone calls.

VoIP also has some disadvantages and problems that need sorting out before VoIP can completely take over the communication market.

• Using your home phone for calling is an extremely reliable way of calling, it very rarely does not work and most people do not have any problems with it. Even when your do not have any power, your phone will work (without it is cordless). VoIP on the other hand, works with internet. If your internet is down – you will not be able to use VoIP. This can be a major disadvantage if you have a power cut – you will not be able to call. This could be solved by using battery backups or generators to provide electricity.

• A big problem with VoIP is also calling emergency services. When you are calling 911, your call gets diverted to the nearest call center for help, but they will not know what call center to send the call to and where help should come from as VoIP can only read IP addresses and not geographical locations. Experts are working on this and are trying to find a solution to this problem. Some VoIP companies also offer solutions for this.

• Just as you can have malware, spamming and viruses in your internet, if you make calls through the internet, you can have them in your calls as well.

• You may experience periods of silence when data is lost or being unscrambled. Because VoIP calls need to arrive at their destination quickly, some parts may get lost or dropped

• The calling quality is not always good

VoIP is still in its beginning stages and hopefully within a few years' time these problem will be sorted out.

When people switch between regular phone lines and VoIP, and use free VoIP to make long-distance calls, they can meet when it does not work properly and does not have good call quality. But when businesses use VoIP to make their calls it is unacceptable to have bad quality calls. If a business decides to use VoIP to lower its calling costs it will typically perform quality checks on the VoIP software. Checks can be made both before they start using that VoIP software and while they are using it to make sure the call quality is satisfactory.
